Social Media is another tool of technology that has changed the work of communicators. Like the internet, social media has redefined the limits of communication. The internet allows individuals to communicate worldwide. Social media is the tool communicators now use to share current events, news and information, and opinions with a vast number of readers and followers.  “In 2005, about 7 percent of American adults used social media. But by 2017, 80 percent of American adults used Facebook alone. (Dizikes, 2020)

Through social media, the delivery of news and information has changed from newspapers and news magazines to social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Gone are the days of waiting for the newspaper to be delivered to our front door to be updated on the latest news stories and current events. Now we can pick up our mobile phones and receive instant information and updates. “According to Zhong, social media is a type of computer-mediated communication — communication that takes place with the help of a computer, such as email, video conferencing and instant messaging. This not only opens new ways for people to connect, but also forces our brains to adapt to a form of communication it wasn’t designed for.(Bohn, 2021)
