The Importance of the Facts

Technological Advances in mass media has impacted our culture.   There are so many positives to the technological advances in mass media that have occurred over the past 30 years. Specifically, social media has opened the door to so many options in communication. News is shared and exchanged at such a rapid pace, and we updated about so many events and so fast. Unfortunately, this rapid exchange of information has led to the release of some misinformation.     Prior to social media, when news happened, there was time to verify facts and sources prior to the story being released in print or on the local news. Today, because of social media a lot of information is posted before it is verified.   As a result, so much misinformation is taken as truth because it has been posted and shared and exchanged before it is verified. Most people have smart phones or other mobile devices that allow for easy access of news and current events. Un...

Days after 09/11/2001, details and photos regarding the attack were reported and shown in newspapers and news magazines. I can still remember the Time Magazine article showing the sad an unfortunate image of a person falling from one of the towers of the World Trade Center in New York.   “The photo was published in newspapers around the U.S. in the days after the attacks, but backlash from readers forced it into temporary obscurity.”  (Photo, 2016) Today, because of technological advancements ...
